 8mm, Super 8 and 16mm films can now be transferred to VHS tape, Digital Video Tape, and DVD. Studio B Video Productions is one of the few facilities that utilize the Elmo� "Direct Transfer" system. During this process, the film image is back-lit against a macro CCD unit and converted to a video signal. There is no projection involved.
You may have seen "mirror-box-do-it-yourself" units at your local general merchandise store. With these units, you must set up your old projector, point it into the box, set up your video camera, point it into the other end of the box and record the projection. Not a bad concept, but the biggest problem is "frame syncronization". Film projectors run at 18-24 frames per second (fps) while video runs at 30 fps. This creates a flicker or "strobe effect". Our units compensate for this and transfer your images smoothly and clearly.  All films are inspected, cleaned and 100% monitored throughout the entire transfer procedure. Our technician (Margaret) adjusts light intensity and corrects colors which may have faded or shifted. Many times we are able to restore the images from your films to their original quality. Of course, the "original quality" depends much on the "original photographer".  Slides and photos can also be transferred to video, DVD and CD-Rom. As a specialized production house, we generally discourage customers from transferring mulititudes of images to video. We encourage you to create a short documentary program. 100 slides or photos is generally all that is needed to create a concise, entertaining program.
